DGPs/IGPs conference to deliberate security on Oct 3

New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) National security, left-wing extremism, threat to VVIP security and new generation crimes like cyber, bio-terrorism and threat from ocean and space would be the focus of three-day Conference of DGPs/IGPs beginning October 3.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would address the 42nd annual conference being organised by the Intelligence Bureau and also have an interactive session with a select group of DGPs/IGPs.

Home Minister Shivraj Patil would inaugurate the conference which would deliberate the concerns confronting police and intelligence personnel and the ever-increasing and newer challenges to law and order and national security including terrorism, insurgency, extremism and espionage.

Economic intelligence, security situation emerging in the North East, enforcement of the NDPS Act, computerisation and various police issues would also be discussed by the 42nd annual conference, whose exofficio Chairman and prime mover would be the Director of the Intelligence Bureau.

The confernece would provide a forum to the police leadership of the coutnry to discuss various problems being faced by them in their day-to-day functioning, work out solutions to such problems by exchange of ideas and sharing of experiences by the echleons and thereby make the police more effective, efficient and people friendly.

On this occasion, 42 officers of the Intelligence Bureau would receive the Indian Police Medal for meritorious services and 15 would receive the President's Police Medal for Distinguished services, personally from the Home Minister and the Prime Minister respectively.

The delegates of the conference would also call on President Pratibha Devisingh Patil. At a special interactive session during the Conference, issues affecting the police would also be deliberated in the presence of Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta.

The Conference is being organised by the Intelligence Bureau since 1920 to provide a forum for sharing of ideas and caring for each others problems which generates greater bonding and comaraderie among the various police forces in the country.

Independent India's first home minister Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel had inaugurated the first IGPs of States of Independent India in 1950.
