Guwahati, Oct 1 (UNI) The non-government wildlife organisations today staged a dharna and hunger strike here to protest the rising number of rhino killings by poachers.
The dharna and the 12-hour hunger strike was jointly organised by organisations like Nature's Beckon, Megamix, Early Birds, Nature's Bonnypran and Green Heritage.
Renowned conservationist like Somyadeep Dutta, Moloy Baruah, Devjit Phukan, Ajay Sarma and Bikul Goswami were present.
This year the Kaziranga National Park had lost 18 rhinos to the bullets of the poachers.
They alleged that the state forest department and the concerned government authority have failed to protect the globally acclaimed rhinos.
They alleged that infrastructure inside the park is in a very bad shape and the forest department had paid little attention to the burning issues.
