Midnapore, Oct 1 (UNI) CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechuri today said the party would go all-out against the UPA Government at the Centre if the latter went ahead with the Indo-US Nuclear Deal.
Talking to mediapersons here, he said, ''We are not interested in toppling the government at the Centre. Many things may happen before the joint committee meeting. We are keeping a close watch on the meeting between External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukharjee and US Secretary of State Condolezza Rice. You should wait and see.'' Asked as to whether they would simply withdraw support to the government or join hands with the BJP in bringing about the downfall of the government, Mr Yechury said the Left had always supported secular forces in the country.
''We support the Congress at the Centre and have always tried to correct their imperial leanings like the present one. If they still go ahead with the Indo-US Nuke deal, we will withdraw our support, but will never join hands with the communal forces, '' he said.
Asked as to whether they would allow the Congress to run a minority government at that time, Mr Yechury simply kept mum.
''We have asked Dr Manmohan Singh whether the Nuke Deal is in the interest for the common people or will it be for resuscitating the US economy and help Mr Bush,'' he added.
He said the alternatives to nuclear electricity like hydro- electricity, electricity from coal, gas wind were much cheaper and eco-friendly.
