Chennai, Oct 1 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi today flayed the Opposition AIADMK for moving the Supreme Court and posing hurdle to the implementation of Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project (SSCP).
Mr Karunanidhi, reacting to AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa's claim that the Supreme Court order, staying the bandh call given by the DMK-led DPA was a great victory, said people were aware that the AIADMK leader had gone to the court against the bandh, called for the speedy implementation of the SSCP.
If Ms Jayalalithaa says that the apex court order was a ''slur'' on him, he was not ashamed of it as he was only fighting for a project, which was necessary for the people of the state, he said, answering a set of questions.
Now the people of the state have clearly understood as who had gone to the court against the project and who had hailed the Supreme Court's order against the project as a major victory, he said, taking a dig at the AIADMK leader.
On Ms Jayalalithaa's remarks that the project could be implemented without causing damage to Ram Sethu as the government could consider five other alignments, the DMK leader said it was a pitty that a two-time Chief Minister was so ingorant about the project.
He said it had already been proved on scientific, economic and environmental basis that the five alignments would not be viable.
Ruling out alternate alignment, Mr Karunanidhi said there was no question of considering alternate alignment at this stage, when it was one year since the dredging was started. Besides, it would also result in huge loss of money, he said.
