New Delhi, Oct 1: The transfer of power in Karnataka from Janata Dal (Secular) to the BJP, its coalition partner, slated for October 3 may be delayed by at least two more days.

The BJP announced that the party Legislators and MPs from the state will meet at Bangalore tomorrow to take stock of the situation while the JD(S) Secretary General K Danish Ali said the party would convene its Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting on October five in Delhi where a decision on power transfer is listed for discussion.

BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP M Venkaiah Naidu will be joining BJP Vice-President Yashwant Sinha to oversee the meeting of the MLAs, MLCs and MPs. Mr Sinha has had meetings with JD(S) supremo and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda last night and the two have agreed to meet again if necessary. Earlier in the day, BJP President Rajnath Singh contended that there was perfect unity in the Karnataka BJP on the issue of transfer of power to the BJP as well as on the Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa becoming the next Chief Minister.

The two parties had agreed to share the Chief Ministership for 20 months each. The JD(S) will be completing its term on Wednesday, October three.

Mr Ali said the JD(S) PAC will review the party's 20-month coalition experience with the BJP and take a final view on the transfer of power.

However, observers are 'pessimistic' about the PAC agreeing on the handing over of Chief Ministership to the BJP. The PAC had suspended all the MLAs including Chief Minister for joining hands with the BJP but later relented, saying such a course was needed to save the party from disintegration.

Mr Rudy, giving details of the results of the local body elections, said BJP's performance was really good with the party winning in 1170 wards as compared to a mere 391 seats five years ago.

On the other hand, the Congress, which earlier had 2,232 wards has been reduced to 1581, he said.

BJP's coalition partner, the JD(S) has won 1399 wards.

The BJP had captured three of the seven city corporations -- Mangalore, Davanagere and Bellary while the BJP and JD (S) together have a majority in Hubli-Dharwad Corporation.

No group can obtain a majority in Mysore and Belgaum but the BJP corporators, he claimed.
