Webber sickened by Vettel's blunder

FUJI, Japan, Sept 30 (Reuters) Mark Webber threw up before and during today's Japanese Grand Prix but nothing made him feel quite as sick as being shunted out of the race while challenging for the lead.

More galling for the Australian, who had been in second place and on course for the best result of his career, the culprit was German rookie Sebastian Vettel driving for Red Bull's sister team Toro Rosso.

Embarrassingly, both men were behind the safety car when Vettel drove into the back of Webber on lap 46, 21 laps from the finish.

''Obviously I feel empty, very empty,'' said Webber, who suffered a bout of food poisoning in the morning, as he walked to the circuit medical centre after the race. ''We had a very good result on the ards today.

''It was all under control to even give (McLaren's race winner) Lewis (Hamilton) a little bit of pressure towards the end to make him sweat for the victory.

''Hitting cars behind the safety car is obviously a bit of a no-no. He (Vettel) did a good job of driving in the bad conditions and then stuffed it up in the easier situation.

''It was clearly a lack of experience...it's the old thing in this game, small mistakes sometimes look massive and that was a small mistake on his side that looked an absolute howler.

''I was pretty rough during the day, vomiting on the grid and vomiting in the car, but we got through that and nearly got there,'' said Webber.

Race stewards said Vettel would drop 10 grid positions at next weekend's Chinese Grand Prix for causing the accident.

''I am very sorry for Mark,'' said the 20-year-old. ''I had no intention to put him out.

''I was looking at Lewis because all of a sudden he seemed to slow down and I thought he had a problem. And by the time I was looking back in front, I was already crashing into Mark.

''In the end we cannot rewind the race...of course I am disappointed in myself. I destroyed his and my race.'' REUTERS TB BST1815
