Chennai, Sep 30 (UNI) In a shocking incident, a police inspector attached to J J Nagar Police Station in the city, along with the representatives of a financial institution, allegedly detained a young couple and harassed them for recovering loan money.
Talking to reporters here today, the couple's advocate Baranidharan said the victim, a software professional, had taken a personal loan of Rs 1.4 lakh from a private finance company a year ago and had agreed to repay it in instalments.
The woman, who was paying the dues regularly, could not do so for the last two to three months, following which the finance company manager, along with some goons, threatened her.
On a petition filed by the victim, a magistrate court directed the J J Nagar Inspector to register a case and conduct a probe against the financial institution.
The Inspector went to the woman's house during the early hours of yesterday and took the woman and her husband to the police station and detained them illegally till afternoon.
During the detention, the police official and the representatives of the finance company coerced and intimidated the young couple to agree to the terms of the private company, the advocate alleged and said he would file a case in the court.
