Engine gets detached from Chennai Mail
Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 30 (UNI) Passengers of the Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai Mail had a providential escape as its engine got detached from the bogies at Veli in this district today.
The engine ran for quite some distance without the bogies and the driver stopped the engine after he noticed the 'trouble'. After attaching the bogies, the train continued its journey.
However, the train was detained at Kazhakootam and top railway safety officals visited the spot and made a thorough check on the whole system, including the Central Buffer Coupling System. The train resumed its journey after suffering a delay of around two hours railway sources said.
According to railway officials, different types of coupling system were used for attaching the bogies with the loco and the system used in the Chennai Mail was one of the best and safest.
Meanwhile, the Railways ordered an inquiry into the incident, the sources said.
