CPI demands hike in MSP for farmers
Lucknow, Sep 30 (UNI) Communist Party of India (CPI) leader and Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sabha national general secretary Atul Anjan today demanded hike in Minimum Support Price (MSP) of wheat and paddy for farmers.
Addressing newspersons here, Mr Anjan said ''the farmers are not getting the right price for their produce. Therefore, the wheat and paddy MSP should be fixed at Rs 1150 and Rs 850 per quintal respectively.'' Demanding the fulfilment of the farmers' needs, the CPI leader said ''on October 30, the party would stage a 'dharna' infront of the Parliament, in which as many as 50,000 farmers would participate.'' Drawing parallel between the Congress led-UPA at the Centre and Kerala government, Mr Anjan observed ''akin to the Kerala government, the Centre should provide interest free loans to the farmers.'' Besides, crops should be insured and pension provided to the farmers after the age of 60, he demanded.
