Congress MLA Yankithung escapes life bid

Kohima, Sep 30: A Congress legislator of Nagalad Assembly had a narrow escape as a grenade bomb planted at his residence in Tyui under Wokha district did not explode.

Police here today said a miscreant attacked MLA Yankithung Yanthan by lobbing a grenade on him at his residence yesterday.

However the bomb did not explode.

The miscreant had been to the MLA regarding some personal issues, police said.

Police further said the miscreant was arrested while he was trying to escape.

The bomb had been recovered, police said adding that investigation was on to ascertain the motive of the attack.

Earlier, another sitting Congress legislator Yamakam, from the Shamator-Chessore Assembly constituency under Tuensang district, had escaped a life attempt when an alleged NSCN-IM cadre tried to shoot him at his residence in Shamator town.
