Shimla, Sep 30 (UNI) Union Finance Minister P Chidamaram will formally launch the ''aam adami bima yojna'' from here on October two, on father of the nation's birth anniversary, official sources today said.
The Life Corporation of India's (LIC) scheme would formally be launched by the Finance Minister on October two at a public meeting, which would also be addressed by Union Labour Oscar Fernandes, who would be accompanying the Finance Minister.
The sources said the ministers are expected to land at Jubbarhatti Airport, near here, and proceed to the public meeting venue at the historic The Ridge Maidan, where Mr Chidambaram would formally announce the launching of the scheme.
The scheme was to be launched by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at a public meeting here today, but was put off after his doctors advised not to travel following a recent surgery.
The calling off the Prime Minister's meeting was a set back to the state government, which was expecting a financial package from him.
