Dhaka, Sep 30 (UNI) Bangladesh High Court today granted bail to former prime minister Khaleda Zia who was arrested on September 3 on charges of misusing power.
Her younger son Arafat Rahman Koko was also arrested for giving a contract to a private company GATCO for handling containers in Chittagong and Dhaka.
The court stayed the proceedings of the GATCO scam case against Begum Khaleda following a writ petition.
Granting bail to her in the case, sans Koko, the court issued a notice to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to explain as to why the filing of the case under the Emergency Powers Rules (EPR) 2007 should not be declared unlawful.
The notice is returnable in six weeks.
The Attorney General Office, however, said they were preparing to move the Appellate Division today seeking a stay on the High Court's order.
Khaleda is now detained in a makeshift jail in parliament building complex.
