UN envoy to fly to Myanmar capital - diplomat
YANGON, Sep 29 (Reuters) United Nations special envoy Ibrahim Gambari is to fly straight on to Myanmar's new capital, Naypyidaw, as soon as he arrives in Yangon later today, a diplomatic source said.
It was not known whether Gambari would meet junta supremo Than Shwe during an emergency visit aimed at trying to prevent more bloodshed in the military suppression of a mass uprising in the former Burma.
At least nine people have been killed so far, according to official accounts, although Western governments say the toll is probably much higher.
The source said Gambari would arrive on a commercial flight from Singapore at 3.20 pm (1420 hrs ist), before taking a special flight to Naypyidaw, 385 km to the north.
