TN Minister's call to students on Sethu Project

Tiruchirapalli, Sep 29 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi called upon the student community to be conscious enough to realise the political motive of communal forces attempting to stall the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project (SSCP).

Winding up the three-day Silver Jubilee celebrations of National College's Department of Zoology here yesterday, the Minister said 'irrational faith' should not be allowed to come in the way of developmental projects even when belief sytems were adapting to modern thinking.

He pointed out the very people who had initiated the project were now giving irrational reasons for stopping its progress. Students should understand the SSCP alignment, now in dispute, was chosen to avoid destruction of coral reefs.

Mr Ponmudi wanted the students to adopt a scientific approach in evaluating the issue.
