Rain halts play after India make a poor start

Bangalore, Sep 29 (UNI) Heavy downpour stopped play after India made a disastrous start losing Sachin Tendulkar on mere nine runs in reply to Australia's imposing total of 307 for seven in the first of the seven one-day internationals (ODI) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here today.

Covers were drawn over the wicket as a slight drizzle turned into heavy showers in the third over of the Indian innings Tendulkar (zero) was trapped in front of the wicket by Mitchell Johnson after Brett Lee scored a maiden opening over.

Earlier Michael Clarke scored his career best 130, his third ODI career century, to set up an imposing 308 for India to chase.
