Punjab govt plans birth centenary celebration of Bhagat Singh

Ludhiana, Sep 29 (UNI) The Punjab Government has chalked out a comprehensive programme for a year-long celebration of the birth centenary of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh in the state.

Disclosing this here today, Information and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia said that the younger generation would be apprised about the unmatched sacrifices of martyrs Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev in the freedom movement during the celebrations.

As part of the celebrations, a number of seminars and symposia would be organised in universities, colleges and schools, which would be addressed by prominent scholars and historians, he said.

Debates and declamation contests on the role of these great martyrs in the freedom movement would be also organised.

The Minister also said that hoardings depicting the philosophy of great martyrs would be installed in all cities and on major roads in the state. Special literature based upon their philosophy and revolutionary writings would be published on a large-scale for distribution among the people and students, he added.

He said that places relating to the martyrs would be properly developed during the year.

Mr Majithia appealed to the youth to follow the philosophy of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and strive to eradicate social evils and injustice from the society.

The Minister expressed thanks to the people and politial parties for extending their overwhelming cooperation for the success of inaugural functions of the year-long centenary birth celebrations of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh held at Amritsar from September 27 to 28.
