PCA Colts finish third in JP Atray Cricket

Chandigarh, Sep 29 (UNI) PCA Colts outplayed PCC by 107 runs to claim the third position in the XIV All India J P Atray Memorial Cricket tournament here today.

Batting first after winning the toss, PCA Colts openers Sunny Sohal(62, 8x4, 2x6) and Ravi Inder Singh (118, 14x4, 2x6) laid a solid foundation as they were associated in a century stand. Ravi Inder played a skipper's knock and Sunny Sohal chipped in with brisk 62 runs off 63 balls. Ankur Kakkar (25) and Munish Bhatia (20) were other notable contributors for PCA Colts.

Manpreet Singh was the most successful bowler for the PCC as he took 3 wickets for 55 runs. Left-arm spinner Varun Khanna and Rahul Sharma took two wickets each for 38 and 44 runs, respectively. PCA Colts posted 281 for eight in their allotted 50 overs.

PCC started their chase with their openers Sarul Kanwar and Charanjit Singh. They received an early jolt when Charanjit (2) was dismissed by Manish Bhatia with the scoreboard reading 16 for 1 after two overs. Sarul Kanwar and Mayank Sidhana did the repair job as the duo added 86 runs in just 94 balls for the second wicket partnership. Sarul Kanwar played a gem of an innings as he contributed 75 runs which came off just 69 deliveries with the help of 10 hits to fence and two sixes.

Mayank Sidhana (47) too hold out in the hands of skipper Ravi Inder Singh off leg spinner Sarabjit Singh at a total of 141 runs.

After the departure of Mayank Sidhana the PCC wickets started tumbling like a pack of cards as with the addition of 33 runs they lost their remaining seven wickets.

Spinners Ankur Kakkar, Sarabjit Singh, Naresh Gogian and Ravi Inder Singh claimed two wickets each. PCC were bowled out at a total off 174 runs with 16.1 overs to spare.

With this win PCA Colts got richer by Rs 30,000 for securing the third position, where as PCC pocketed Rs 15,000 to satisfy at fourth place.

Ravi Inder Singh was awarded the Man-of-the-Match.

Tomorrow the day-night final between MRF Chennai and State Bank of Mysore will begin at 1430 hrs at the PCA Stadium, Mohali.
