Mulayam lauds Team India but expressess his disliking of the game

By Staff

Lucknow, Sep 29 (UNI) Though congraluting Team India for winning the inaugural T20 world Cup, Samajwadi Party supremo and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today said the game of cricket was a symbol of 'slavery' and government should promote other sports rather than cricket.

''The governemnt should promote sports like hockey, swimming volleyball, kabbadi and others rather than cricket'', said Mr Yadav while interacting with the reporters here.

He said he never watched a cricket match nor had he any experience about a sixer being hit but congraluted Team India for their rare achievement.

The SP leader also made it clear that only promotion of national sports would encourage the large section of the masses. He also supported the issue raised by the hockey players for ignoring them even after winning the Asia Cup recently. ''Governemnt should have honoured the hockey players also like they have done for the cricketers'', he demanded.
