Hyderabad, Sep 29 (UNI) Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman G Madhavan Nair and Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) Chairman Anil Kokodkar were today conferred honorary fellowships by the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) for their outstanding contribution to space and atomic energy programmes respectively.
The citations were presented to Mr Nair, a leading technologist in the field of rocket system and Dr Kokadkar, who had taken several new initatives to augument the country's nuclear power capacity playing a lead role in design and construction of Dhurv Reactor and the conduct of series of successful nuclear tests at Pokhran.
Also Chairman of the Space Commission and Secretary of Department of Space, Mr Nair had made significant contributions to development of indigenous satellite launch vehicles, including Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle and Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicles.
Under Dr Kokodkar's leadership, the country had developed technologies for improving the quality of life of people, including radiation processing of food and agro-products with emphasis on oilseeds and pulses, health care including treatment of cancer,urban and rural water management and desalination of water.
'Distinguished fellowships' were conferred on Former IETE President Yashwant Deva, a reputed defence analyst and Dr M G Chandrsekhar, Former Scientific Secretary, ISRO, for their contributions in their respective fields.
