Chennai, Sep 28 (UNI) Tamil Nadu State Planning Commission (TNSPC) is planning to revive Khadi sector in order to create awareness and patriotism among the people, according to Commission's Vice-Chairman M Naganathan.

Talking to newspersons here today, he said the government was planning to introduce new modern designs in Khadi sector, thereby increasing the patronage among the people.

He appealed to school and college students to take a pledge on the Gandhi Jayanthi Day to wear Khadi dress once in a month.

Stating that wearing of Khadi would imbibe patriotism among the students, TNSPC member K Lakshmikanthan Bharathy said the movement would help to increase production of Khadi products.

''This in turn would help the poor people engaged in Khadi production'', he added.

He said Gandhi Museum at Madurai and Khadi and Village Industries Welfare Board would jointly organise Gandhi Jayanthi Day celebration at Madurai where students would be administered the pledge.

The Government and Sarvodaya Sangam together registered a sale of Rs 80 crore this year and the Commission would recommend the government to provide modern chakras and looms to increase the production tenfold, he said.
