New Delhi, Sep 28 (UNI) Describing the late actor-politician Sunil Dutt and his wife Nargis Dutt as ''true citizens of our Republic, patriotic and Secular, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said their life and work meant a lot not only for the World of cinema but also for the cause of Nation building.
''It is rare to find a couple whose life of romance, love and exceptional artistic accomplishments was so deeply influenced by the larger vision of India. Their life and work meant a lot not only for the World of cinema but also for the cause of Nation building, at a particularly important moment in our recent history,''the Prime Minister said after releasing, along with Congress President Sonia Gandhi, 'Mr and Mrs Dutt: Memories of our Parents', a compilation of memoirs of Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt by their three children - Sanjay Dutt, Priya and Namrata.
For Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt and his sisters Priya and Namrata, it was indeed a proud and deeply emotional moment as the book, offering a rare insight into the life and strong romantic bond between their parents Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt was released at a star-studded function at the Prime Minister's Office, with the entire spectrum of Congress Leaders, from Mr Salman Khursheed, Mr Mukul Wasnik, Cabinet Ministers Shivraj Patil and Sushil Kumar Shinde, Mr Navin Jindal, MLA Ramakant Goswami, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Congress leader Rajiv Shukla and many others.
''I am very happy and want to thank the Congress and the Cabinet ministers for the support they have given to my parents' memories by gracing the release of a book on their life,''an emotional Sanjay Dutt said.
Speaking on the occasion, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said,''through the release of this book this evening, we honour two remarkable Indians, two luminous personalities who touched hearts of millions across the country through their charm, courage and fortitude. The manner in which they confronted adversities and the dignity with which they faced problems touched our heart.
These qualities of them came across not only in their films but also in the causes they championed.'' Describing the late Sunil Dutt and his wife Nargis Dutt as one of the few films artistes in India who played a constructive role in National development and National integration, the Prime Minister said,''Mr and Mrs Dutt symbolised the public spiritedness of our films personalities. This public adulation can be put to good use, to national benefit, if our film stars inspire our youth to greater effort, to live by the ideas of our Republic and the values of our society and civilisation.
''I hope this book will inspire a new generation of film personalities to think beyond their daily work and think about how they can contribute to Nation building and National Integration.'' More UNI
