Shastri appointed NCA chairman

Mumbai, Sept 28 (UNI) Former India captain Ravi Shastri was today appointed chairman of the National Cricket Academy at the BCCI Annual General Meeting here.

Shastri will take over from interim chairman of NCA Ajay Shirke, who was appointed to the post of the Bangalore-based Academy after Kapil Dev was sacked for signing up with the 'rebel' Indian Cricket League (ICL).

Shastri, who played 80 Tests for India betwen 1981 and 1992, is now a well known commentator and expert on television.

He was also India's cricket manager for the Bangladesh tour in May this year.
