Red Cross Emblem misuse is an offence: J and K minister

Srinagar, Sep 28 (UNI) Red Cross emblem is an exclusive sign of the Red Cross Organization and no one, even concerned with medical care or profession, can use it, Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Health and Medical Education Mangat Ram Sharma said here today.

Its misuse is an offence, warned the minister at a seminar held on the misuse of Red Cross symbol.

He enjoined upon all officers concerned to ensure that no such misuse was either allowed and asked for the strict compliance of government instructions in this regard.

Doctors, health institutions, ambulances and paramedics have their allotted symbols that were equally attractive, reflect the values and traditions of their respective professions and were widely used in the country and world over alike, he said Mr Sharma appealed medical fraternity and the businessmen to be on the side of law and desist from misuse of the Red Cross symbol.

The Minister said the Red Cross movement has the sole objective to help those who suffer and contribute for global peace.

" Promotion of human values and respect for human life and dignity is the prime objective of Red Cross Organization and its role in disaster management and healthcare is recognized world over ", Mangat Ram added.

The Minister said the Red Cross, is providing monetary and material assistance to the people in distress during emergencies and such assistance would improve in volume and quantity by the active participation of public in Red Cross activities.

He also underscored the need for creating awareness among the people about the functioning of Red Cross.

Mr Vincent Nicod Head of the Regional Delegation International Committee of the Red Cross also spoke on the occasion and threw light on the functioning of the organization in the world.
