Bhopal, Sep 27 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Personnel Suresh Pachouri today condemned the registering of a police case in Shivpuri district, against Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia and called it as a move inspired by political vendetta.
''The action against the popular parliamentarian has been accepted as a challenge by my party. If the case is not withdrawn then my party will launch a public agitation by taking to the streets. I have discussed the matter with the Governor, Union Home Minister, Director-General of Police and Mr Scindia,'' he said in a press conference after his visit to Madhya Pradesh's Hoshangabad district.
The Congress state unit submitted a protest memorandum to Governor Balram Jakhar, the Minister added.
''As per the information I obtained, Mr Scindia was not even present on the spot. Firing took place as part of a predetermined plan during a bhoomipujan ceremony in Pohri Assembly constituency under the Prime Minister's Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). The disturbance was planned by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that is smarting from the recent loss in the Shivpuri Assembly bypoll,'' he said.
When asked whether he discussed the matter with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Minister replied in the negative but added that he expected an impartial solution from the Chief Minister.
''The Congress MP is hurt by the incident. He said that it simply cannot be imagined and vengeance is the sentiment behind it. For my part, I am well aware of my constitutional responsibilities and will fulfill them,'' Mr Pachouri said.
Mr Scindia's supporters yesterday disputed and then came to blows with those of Pohri's Rashtriya Samanata Dal MLA Harivallabh Shukla as the latter laid the foundation stone for a few roads under PMGSY even before Mr Scindia's arrival. A case was registered at Bairaad Police Station against Mr Scindia, Mr Shukla and their supporters.
In the 2004 general election, Mr Shukla contested unsuccessfully on a BJP ticket against Mr Scindia.
