Aizawl, Sep 28 (UNI) In the wake of renewed struggle for democracy in Myanmar, ethnic Mizo tribals in the neighbouring country have appealed for the support of their kin in Mizoram.

Noting that most countries have expressed their support to the democracy movement in Myanmar, with even the military junta's long-time ally China changing its stance, Chin National Conference secretary Sia Piang said with India being the largest democracy in the region, its support for democracy in Myanmar will certainly be meaningful.

''Our Indian brothers in Mizoram can play an important role in India's support to Myanmar's democracy struggle,'' he said, asserting that the political developments in Myanmar has impact in Mizoram because economic hardship in the country had driven a large number of immigrants to the Indian state.

''Now, here is an opportunity for the solution to all these problems. We earnestly appeal the Mizoram government and its people to support this welcoming movement in Burma lest we lose the opportunity,'' he added.

Meanwhile, Zomi National Congress (ZNC) MP and United National Alliance (UNA) spokesperson Cin Sian Thang was arrested in Myanmar yesterday, a day before his party planned to join the monks-led movement. Observers here apprehend that the new developments in Myanmar may effect India's 'Look East' Policy which is to greatly benefit Mizoram.
