By Staff

Noida, Sep 28 (UNI) Over 150 members from the Jaypee Greens, including Kapil Dev, will vie for the six spots as the intra-club competition of McDowell's Signature Club Golf championship gets underway here tomorrow.

The competition starting tomorrow is a part of the Northern leg of India's largest golf tournament which will bring together over 4,500 golfers representing 30 top golf clubs from 20 cities across the country.

The Championships will culminate in a Grand Finale to be held at Phoenix Golf Course, Pattaya, Thailand, to decide the McDowell's Signature Champion Golf Club of India.

To be played in a three-tier format, the first stage of McDowell's Signature Club Golf Championship will be held at all 30 clubs, where members of each participating club play amongst each other to select the 'Club Team'.

The second stage is the Regional Finals, where each club team battles it out against the other clubs in the region to decide the Regional Champion Golf Club. The regional winners will then clash in the final to decide the Champion Golf Club.

To allow for wider participation by the best golfers as well as beginners, there are three handicap categories 0-8 (played on Gross Stableford format), 9-16 and 17-24 (played on 3/4th Nett Stableford format). The winners and runners-up from each handicap category form the six-member club team.

The Northern region comprises 10 teams namely the Noida Golf Club, Jaypee Greens (Greater Noida), Rambagh Golf Club (Jaipur), Ranjitgarh Golf Club (Ludhiana), Lucknow Golf Club, Golden Greens Resort (Gurgaon), Chandigarh Golf Club, Army Golf Club (Delhi), Panther Golf Club (Amritsar) and Classic Golf Club (Gurgaon).

The four Regional finals will be held at the Eagleton Golf Resort, Bangalore, on October 8, Environmental Park and Training Area (Army Golf Course) New Delhi on October 15, the Royal Calcutta Golf Club, Kolkata on November 12 and the Bombay Presidency Golf Club, Mumbai on November 26.
