Disciplinary committee meets today to start enquiry on Shoaib

By Staff

Karachi, Sep 28 (UNI) Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) disciplinary committee will meet here today to review charges against controversial fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, including assaulting fellow pacer Mohammed Asif.

The chairman of the disciplinary committee, Shafqat Naghmi said that the first formal meeting of the committee would be held today in which the charges against the controversial fast bowler will be reviewed before he is summoned for a hearing.

When asked whether the apology tendered by Shoaib will be rated by the committee, Naghmi said it would not suffice as there were a number of other charges that needed to be probed against the 'Rawalpindi Express'.

''I can't disclose the details about the other charges on Shoaib at the moment. The disciplinary committee will convene today to formalise the charges and will then issue a showcause notice to him the same day,'' Naghmi was quoted as saying by the Dawn.

Naghmi, who heads the disciplinary committee, will hear the case along with two other members, including Director Cricket Operations(DCO) Zakir Khan and Director Administration Nadeem Akram.

If indicted, the maverick pacer will miss the entire home series against South Africa commencing in Karachi from Monday.

The newspaper added quoting sources that the disciplinary committee was likely to hand out a suspension of five ODIs and a fine of Rs 300,000 to the mercurial cricketer.
