Una, Sep 28 (UNI) BJP's National Vice-President and former union minister Shanta Kumar today said the Congress party was playing the politics of appeasement with assembly elections round the corner.

Addressing media persons here, he said the Congress can even negate the existence of father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, just like it had negated the existence of Lord Rama by filing an affidavit in the court.

Lashing out at the ruling party, Mr Kumar said it had also advocated clemency to Afzal Guru, convicted for masterminding the attack on Indian Parliament.

Terming the attack as the ''greatest dis-respect'' to the Indian democracy, he said it was unfortunate that a national political party was ruining the social fabric of the country by playing politics of convenience.

Talking about the state government, the BJP leader said, during the last four-and-a-half years, the state had been a major loser on the twin fronts of industrialisation and hydel power generation.

Both these sectors elsewhere had received major incentives from the Union government, he said, adding that states like Uttarakhand had reaped the maximum benefits.

Mr Kumar charged that while unemployed engineers from the state should have been given precedence in setting up micro-hydel projects, the fact was that 60 to 70 per cent firms in the sector were from Andhra Pradesh.

He charged that the Congress Government had vested interests in allocating hydel projects.
