New Delhi, Sep 28 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today inaugurated eight Foot Over Bridges(FOBs), including two with escalators, through a remote from the Delhi Secretariat.
Addressing newspersons after the inauguration, the Chief Minister said it was for the first time in Delhi that FOBs with heavy duty escalators, which are energy efficient, had been commissioned.
''With the opening of such FOBs, a dream has been realised and Delhi has taken a step forward towards becoming a world-class city,'' Ms Dikshit said, adding that the PWD would also install walk escalators near major flyovers like Dhaula Kuan and AIIMS.
Ms Dikshit said the new FOBs would provide safe passage to pedestrians while crossing roads with heavy traffic and also provide much wanted relief to children, aged and handicapped persons. The FOBs with escalators would prove to be most convenient and overcome difficulties and danger being faced by the pedestrians.
Twenty eight more FOBs would be commissioned very soon in Delhi which would ensure safe and secure passage to pedestrians and curb road accidents.
The MLAs have also been requested to identify places where they may like to have FOBs. The Finance Department has been instructed to issue necessary sanction for utilisation of MLA Local Area Development Fund for commissioning of such FOBs, the Chief Minister said.
Twelve FOBs have already been commissioned in Delhi, whereas work for another four is in progress. 16 another FOBs are in pipeline. The escalators are installed as per traffic quantum at a particular place.
Delhi PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, Power and Finance Minister A K Walia, Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf, Education Minister Arvinder Singh and several MLAs and senior officers were also present on the occasion.
