Chancellor rejects Gauhati varsity VC's resignation

Guwahati, Sep 28 (UNI) Gauhati University Chancellor Lt Gen (Retd) Ajai Singh today rejected the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Amarjyoti Choudhury.

Lt Gen (Retd) Singh had asked for a meeting on October 1 with the Chief Secretary, Mr Choudhury and other concerned persons.

The Chancellor said he would personally intervene to ensure that all financial assistance reach the university in time.

Mr Choudhury had resigned citing failure of the state government in providing adequate funds to the university.

Education Minister Ripun Bora has claimed that the state government had provided Rs 20 crore this year and the 12th Finance Commission had given a similar amount to the GU.

But the VC has alleged that the government had not even bothered to respond to the Rs 181 crore vision document that he had prepared and also thay have not given a single paisa of the Rs 25 crore announced on August 15.
