New Delhi, Sep 28 (UNI) The Punjab Congress Committee President and former Punjab Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal today withdrew her petition in the Supreme Court, challenging Punjab and Haryana High Court judgement in an embezzlement case against her.

The High Court had dismissed her petition seeking quashing of criminal proceedings launched against her in the case.

A bench comprising Justices Arijeet Pasayat and P SathaSivam permitted Bhattal to withdraw her petition.

According to the allegations, Bhattal had withdrawn Rs 20 lakh from Chief Minister's fund when she was the Chief Minister of the state in 1996 and there was no account of the money. Following which, a criminal case was registered against her.

She moved the High Court under section 482 CRPC for quashing of the criminal proceedings initiated against her for alleged misappropriation of funds by her.

Bhattal was also the Deputy Chief Minister in Amarinder Singh government in the state.
