Hyderabad, Sep 28 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today ridiculed Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu's claim of providing nine hours of uninterrupted free power supply for agricultural sector if the party came to power in the next elections.
Addressing the press here, Party Spokespersons N Tulasi Reddy and M Kodanda Reddy said Mr Naidu had no right to make such claims when he failed to provide free power supply to the farmers during his nine-year rule in the state.
The previous TDP Government totally neglected the agriculture sector with Mr Naidu openly saying when he was the Chief Minister that it was impossible to provide free power to the farmers.
Terming the Mr Naidu's claim as political gimmick, they said the people would not believe his cheap political statements as they were well aware of their struggle for power supply during the TDP Regime and the oppressive methods adopted by the TDP on agitators.
The Congress leaders said their party election manifesto clearly mentioned it would provide free power supply to the farmers and did not saying anything about the duration. However, the government had been providing free power to the farmers depending on their needs.
The state government had also waived electricity arrears of farmers and withdrew cases on 11,000 farmers filed by the previous TDP Regime.
On Mr Naidu's claim of providing house sites and houses to all the poor people in the state when they cames to power, they said by March 31, 2009 the state government would provide houses and house sites to all the poor people in the state.
