Hyderabad, Sep 28 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh has made rapid strides in the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), being implemented in 19 districts.
Reviewing the progress of NREGS-AP, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy directed officials to implement the scheme in a transparent manner, a release said here today.
He said the 100-day employment offer under the scheme had gone down well with the rural people. Chittoor district topped the index of performance with maximum number of working days per households.
Under the NREGS, so far 9,558 tanks restoration works were taken up at an expenditure of Rs 915 crore and 238 tanks constructed at Rs 218 crore.
