Agra, Sep 28 (UNI) At least 11 people, including six policemen, were seriously wounded after members of two communities clashed during the 'Akhand Ramayan Path' at a temple in Achnera area of the Taj city today.
A dispute related to loudspeakers during the 'Ramayan Path' at Shiv temple had turned violent last evening. A mob led by a former corporator reached the spot and misbehaved with the temple mahant.
However, senior officials rushed to the troubled area on time and brought the situation under control.
FIRs were lodged against Munna Qureshi and Ehsan. Later, police arrested Ehsan.
The dispute again snowballed into a full-fledged clash this afternoon and a mob surrounded a police station to demand Munna's arrest and hurled countrymade bombs at the police, wounding six policemen, including a circle officer critically.
The agitators also vandalised several shops besides the police station.
To disperse the mob, police resorted to lathicharge injuring many people from both the sides.
The situation could only be brought under control after senior officials reached the spot.
Police had been deployed in strength to prevent fresh violence.
According to special secretary (home) A K Verma, the situation, at present, was under control. Some persons had been taken into custody and were being interrogated.
