32,000 candidates in fray for gram panchayat polls in Marathwada

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Sep 28 (UNI) Over 32000 candidates are left in the fray for the election to 2081 gram panchayats in different parts of Aurangabad Division as the last date of filing of nomination papers ended on September 26.

About 2000 candidates have joined the election fray in 188 grampanchayats in Aurangabad district. Over 6000 candidates have filed their papers in Jalna district for 2223 gram panchayat seats.

Total 285 gram panchayats are facing election in the district.

Over 9000 candidates are contesting the election in Latur district for 3057 seats, 1200 candidates were reported from Nanded district from 182 gram panchayats, while Osmanabad has 4421 candidates for 157 gram panchayats. As many as 1300 candidates are in fray in 125 village panchayats in Parbhani, while for 703 gram panchayat's in Beed, about 8000 candidates have filed their papers. In Hingoli, 871 candidates are in the race for the 44 gram panchayats.

Meanwhile, the process to withdraw the nomination in Georai in Beed district was conducted today amid tight police arrangements.

The process had to be postponed till today, following clashes between two rival political groups on September 26. The irate mobs went on rampage ransacking the Georai tehsil office and attacked police vehicles, apart from setting fire to a motorcycle. The police had registered an offence against 55 persons in this connection, said the police sources in Beed.
