Moga, Sept 27 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal general secretary and MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa today said that a team of senior officers of Union Food Ministry would visit Punjab soon to assess the condition of farmers of the state, many of whom were reeling under the debt due to which some are even driven to commit suicide.

Mr Dhindsa, while talking to mediapersons at Daudhar village in Moga district today, said that the central team's visit is in response to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal's appeal to provide a package to Punjab farmers on the pattern of southern states due to their deteriorating economic condition.

In reply to another question, Mr Dhindsa, a former union minister, said that Akali Dal was ready to face the mid term poll as there were chances that the UPA Government at the Centre would go for mid term Lok Sabha polls. ''The UPA Government is under tremendous pressure of the left allies over the issue of Indo-US nuclear deal.'' If there was mid term poll, both SAD and BJP would fight unitedly, he said.
