Amritsar, Sep 27 (UNI) Ten people were injured when police resorted to lathicharge to disperse a group of unruly farmers at Chowk Founwara, near Jallianwala Bagh, in the city today.

They were protesting against the Government's ''failure'' to fulfill the promises made to farmers by the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal in its election manifesto.

The mob indulged in heavy stone pelting and broke police barricades at Hall Gate and some other places while proceeding towards Jallianwala Bagh where Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was presiding over a function organised in connection with the commemoration of the birth centenary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

Raising anti-Government slogans, the farmers, led by Kissan Sangarsh Committee leaders, assembled in Rambagh Garden and later went in a procession to gherao the Chief Minister.

They were, however, stopped at Chowk Founwara where they clashed with police. Some policemen were also injured in the stone pelting and brick batting by farmers.

The Chief Minister left Jallianwala Bagh after presiding the function.
