In Taipei, CPT was the market's most active issue by volume, surging 6.88 percent to the daily limit and outpacing the main TAIEX's <.twii> 1.69 percent gain. In South Korea, LG.Philips LCD's shares ended up 0.8 percent.

Growing optimism over demand in the display sector had also fuelled buying among other LCD shares. AU Optronics Corp , the world's No.3 LCD maker, rose 3.81 percent and Chi Mei Optoelectronics gained 5.37 percent on Thursday.
