Bhopal, Sep 27 (UNI) Owing to a nationwide strike of the State Bank of India's subsidiaries in protest against a merger proposal with SBI, services were paralysed today at related banks in Madhya Pradesh.
The All India State Bank of Indore Employees' Coordination Committee and All India State Bank of Indore Officers' Coordination Committee claimed in a release issued here that no work took place at more than 460 branches.
A bank employees' rally, taken out in the state capital, snaked via New Market, Apex Bank and Roshanpura to transform into a public meeting in front of Panchanan Bhavan. Speaking on the occasion, employees' leaders protested the merger alleging that it would deal a body blow to interests of profit-making subsidiaries. The decision would lead to ''apprehension of retrenchment and closure of branches.'' They warned that the agitation would be intensified if SBI went ahead with the merger. Employees of the State Bank of Indore, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Travancore, State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur and State Bank of Hyderabad took part in the strike.
