SRTC buses back on Srinagar city routes

Srinagar, Sep 27 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir government has reintroduced State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) bus service on some select city routes following reports that private passenger vehicles are not plying after evening.

An official spokesman said the buses would be operated from Lal Chowk to Dalgate, Nehru Park, Shalimar, Tailbal Zakoora, Hazratbal Rainawari in the down town and outskirts and Dalgate to Lal Chowk.

He said the next service, which would be operated from Batamaloo general bus stand would cover Eidgah, Soura, Noshehra, Baghi- Ali- mardan, Lal Bazar, Hazratbal, Tailbal, Shalimar, Nishat and Dalgate areas.

Before the introduction of mini buses and other 407 vehicles in late eighties, SRTC buses were plying almost all cites besides other district routes in Kashmir valley and Jammu division.

He said the government is committed to providing better and comfortable transport facilities to the commuters of the state.

He said the buse services inaugurated by Transport Minister Hakim Mohamamd Yaseen would be operated till evening to facilitate the people especially traders and employees.

The minister said efforts are on to run the SRTC profitably and strengthen the infrastructure as well as the functioning of the corporation.

He said for the purpose, the state government provided Rs 17 crore to the SRTC as budgetary support during this financial year.

The Minister said the Corporation has provided transport facilities to more than 81 lakh passengers by operating 441 buses across the state during last year.
