New Delhi, Sep 27 (UNI) Mediapersons under the banner of Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ) today marched from Mandi House to the High Court protesting against the sentence awarded to Mid day journalists by the Delhi High Court.
The agitationists, chanting slogans like 'down with judicial authoritarianism' and 'stop press bashing', were stopped at Copernicus Marg by the police.
Addressing the gathering, speakers expressed concern at the increasing incidents of attempts to muzzle the press.
A unanimous resolution passed by the agitating journalists said the DUJ was appalled at the sentencing of Mid Day journalists for investigative reporting on allegations of a former Chief Justice's sons benefitting from certain orders of teh court during his tenure.
Speakers at the gathering stressed the need for restraint on part of the judiciary while initiating contempt proceedings against journalists who were duty bound to bring truth to light.
