Chandigarh, Sep 27 (UNI) Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party today urged the State Governemnt not to implement the proposed revision in the electricity tariff as recommended by the Electricity Tariff Commission.
Meetings of cabinet ministers of the Punjab BJP, MLAs and party core group held separately here were of unanimous opinion that the hike in the electricity tariff, propsoed by the Commission, would seriously affect the common man and also give a stunning blow to the already crippling small and medium scale industries.
All the three meetings were presided over by the state president Rajinder Bhandari. In all these meetings, besides other points , the focus of the discussion centered around the recommendation of the Electricity tarif- Commission and decision of the Punjab Government to implement the same in toto.
BJP leaders said due to the ''inflationary policy being practiced by the UPA Government at the Centre'', the articles of daily use were already pinching all sections of the society especially the daily wagers, small shopkeepers, dalits, landless labourers and farmers with small land holdings.
''Therefore the Punjab BJP is of the considered opinnion that this hike in power tariff is ill-timed, uncalled for and unjustified and requested the state government to reconsider its decision'', said BJP General Secretary Kamal Sharma.
