Orissa Urban Police Bill receives Presidential assent
Bhubaneswar, Sep 27 (UNI) The Orissa Urban Police Bill to introduce the police commissionerate in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, received the President's assent.
Official sources here today said Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil has communicated to the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on the presidential assent to the bill.
The state Assembly had passed the bill in 2003 and it was awaiting the assent of the President. The Chief Minister had on many ccassions pursued the matter with the centre for the Presidential assent.
This apart, another bill- The Special Courts Bill 2006 empowering the state government to set up Special courts to deal with the corruption cases and confiscate the properties acquired by the officials and public servant disproportionate to their known source of income,was also received the Presidential assent.
The bill was adopted in the state assembly during 2006.
