National Seminar on Food-Dairy processing at BHU from tomorrow

Varanasi, Sep 27 (UNI) Experts, including food and dairy scientists, besides captains from Food Processing and Dairy industry will attend a two-day National Seminar on Prospects of Food and Dairy Processsing Industries in Eastern Region starting at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) here tomorrow.

Delibrations at the seminar will cover a wide range of issues, comprising process upgradation of indigenous dairy products, diversification of product portfolio and dairy exports promotion, Seminar's organising secretary Prof Alok Jha informed.

''Promotion of dairy product exports of India, which only has a small slice of 1.5 to three per cent presently in the global dairy product market will be a crucial area of discussion at the seminar.

Measures to reduce wastage of fruits, vegetables and cereals, presently worth Rs 58 crore annually will also be thrashed out by experts and captains of the food processing industry,'' Prof Jha added.

The seminar will be inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Production Commissioner Anees Ansari, while Indian Dairy Association president N R Bhasin will be the distinguished guest at the inaugural function.

Other prominent delegates at the seminar include, S S H Rizvi, International Professor, Food Science, Cornell University (USA), Neil Prasad, Managing Director, Danisco Ingrediants Ltd, A S Bawa Director Defence Food Research Laboratory, Mysore and R M Joshi, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi.
