SINGAPORE, Sep 27 Gold steadied on Thursday after falling in New York as the dollar bounc

SINGAPORE, Sep 27 (Reuters) Gold steadied on Thursday after falling in New York as the dollar bounced off new lows against the euro, while platinum was within sight of a 10-month high.

-- Spot gold was at $727.80/728.50 an ounce, hardly changed from $728.10/728.90 late in New York on Wednesday, when it dropped more than $2.

-- Resistance was pegged at $740, while support was seen at this week's lows around $722.

-- Platinum rose to $1,344/1,349 an ounce from $1,343.20/1,350.20 late in New York -- On Wednesday, platinum touched $1,348, its highest price since hitting arecord of $1,395 in November 2006, on investor buying.

-- A settlement of a brief autoworkers strike against General Motors may have opened the door to more buying, to the extent that the start of the strike on Monday led to worries about demand for platinum for automobile catalytic converters.

-- The benchmark August 2008 gold futures on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange fell 3 yen to 2,728 yen per gram.

-- The most-active December gold contract on the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange edged down $1.0 an ounce to $734.5 an ounce on electronic trade.

-- The dollar steadied off record lows against the euro on Thursday as investors hunted for bargains after the U.S.

currency's sharp fall in the past month due to the Federal Reserve's monetary easing.

-- The euro was steady against the dollar from late U.S.

trade at $1.4128 . The dollar fell a tad to 115.45 yen from 115.55 yen.

-- Silver hardly moved at $13.35/13.38 an ounce.

-- Palladium edged down to $338.00/343.00 an ounce from $339.45/343.45 late in New York.
