Itanagar, Sep 27 (UNI) The BJP in Arunachal Pradesh has demanded the setting up of a high-level inquiry committee to probe into the alleged nexus between a few ministers of the Dorjee Khandu government and the proscribed ULFA outfit.

Addressing a press conference here, newly-elected state president Tangor Tapak said, there were strong evidences of extremists being given shelter and allowed to operate in the state in the past.

''It is pertinent to mention here that the September 17 arrest of Prabal Neog, commander of the 28th Battalion of ULFA, instrumental in the massacre of Hindi-speaking people in Assam at Tezpur and his subsequent interrogation by security agencies and security forces opened a Pandora's Box when he reportedly named three Arunachal ministers extending logistic support to him,'' he alleged and added that Neog's family was living in various rented houses in the Capital Complex for the last ten months.

However, the state government spokesman Tako Dabi while rubbishing all allegations of ULFA-Congress nexus during a press conference claimed that none of the ministers or leaders of Arunachal Pradesh was in any way involved with any underground organization.

''The rise in the number of terrorist strikes in the country as a whole showed that the Congress is soft pedaling on terrorism,'' Tapak commented adding, ''If the ministers were clean then why was the state government not showing interest in ordering a probe.'' ''The BJP would take to the streets and hold demonstrations to create public awareness if the government remained silent on such sensitive issues concerning the safety and security of the people, the BJP chief added.
