Bhopal, Sep 27 (UNI) Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti-led Bharatiya Janshakti (BJ) today alleged that rampant corruption was encouraged by state Water Resources Minister Anup Mishra - who is former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's nephew - and Public Health Engineering Minister Chaudhry Chandrabhan Singh.
''Large-scale appointments of engineers were made in exchange for money in Mr Mishra's department. The Comptroller and Auditor-General's report cast aspersions on irregularities in the department's projects,'' BJ General Secretary Prahlad Patel told reporters on the third day of his eight-day anti-corruption fast at the local Roshanpura Chowk.
Accusing Mr Singh of misusing his post for land purchase, he added that during Mr Singh's tenure as Agriculture Minister he handed over certain schemes to favourites.
''Complaints, along with proof, were submitted to the Lokayukta that has initiated an investigation,'' Mr Patel said. The BJ claimed that it would expose other cases of corruption until October 2.
