Bangalore lift plate; Army play Chennai Cheetahs in final

Mumbai, Sep 27 (UNI) Bangalore Rugby Football Club lifted the plate title, while the main final will be a repeat of last years final with Army and the Chennai Cheetahs set to go head to head in the 74th Vodafone Essar All-India&South Asia Rugby Tournament at the Bombay Gymkhana here today.

Bangalore RFC were up against Delhi Lions and though they dominated the game they found it a little difficult to score. CT Sandeep broke free and found a gap to put Bangalore up 5-0 with a Try. Ady converted to put Bangalore up 7-0. The Delhi Lions threatened to score but just could not.

Bangalore made sure they had a stranglehold on their opponents when Ady powered his was through the Delhi Lions and scored his side's second Try. The two sides went into halftime with Bangalore leading 12-0. The second half saw both sides struggle to score and the game ended with the score unchanged.

The Chennai Cheetahs were in some of their best form against the hosts, Bombay Gymkhana. The Cheetah's took control of the game and took the lead through Sumedha Malavanna. Captain Emil Vartazarian converted for the Cheetah's to put them up by seven. The Cheetahs made steady progress and scored later through Ravi Jayasurya and Suratik Sen. Vartazarian converted once for the Cheetahs to take their score to 19. Bombay Gymkhana managed to get one Try through their captain and India captain, Nasser Hussain. The Cheetahs won 19-5.

Last years finalists, Army, gave a good account of themselves in their game against Maharashtra State Police (MSP). Army kept control of the match right throughout and scored early through Charanjeet Singh. Sujay Lamba converted from right in front of goal to take the Army side to a 7-0 lead. The Army team were showing their physical superiority and were winning all the scrums. MSP had their backs to the wall and it was no surprise when Dalvinder Singh scored a Try for Army. Lamba missed with the conversion but Army still had a 12-0 lead. Towards the final 15 minutes of the half, Army scored once more with Charanjeet scoring the Try and Lamba converting. MSP had a great chance to get on the board when they received a penalty.

Sameer Sheikh scored to take the sides into halftime at 19-3.

Army continued to dominate the game and powered on in the second half and scored through Dalvinder Singh, Parvinder Singh and Ramesh Kumar. Sujay Lamba scored through 2 conversions and 1 penalty. Army won the game 41-3.

The Cheetahs will play Army in a repeat of last years final on Saturday.
