Badal calls upon youth to strengthen country's unity

Amritsar, Sep 27 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today called upon the youth to come forward to strengthen the unity and integrity of the country.

He was addressing a function organised on the occasion of 100th birth anniversary of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev at Jallianawala Bagh here. He paid rich tributes to the martyrs of freedom struggle and placed wreath at the memorial.

Mr Badal lauded the unparallel role of Punjabis in the freedom movement and said they had 80% share in the total sacrifices made by the countrymen. He said that Punjabis would always be in the forefront in protecting the country from any outside threat.

The Chief Minister administered an oath to the youth who were dressed like Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, to dedicate themselves for the unity and integrity of the country, without any consideration of caste, creed and colour and to follow the martyrs ideology for the welfare of the people.

Earlier, Mr Badal received the "Mashals" (torches) brought by these youth from every district of the state. As many as 1001 youth from Haryana also participated and took the oath.

Mr Badal was accompanied by Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Attwal, Shiromani Akali Dal Working President Sukhbir Singh Badal, Mr Navjot Sidhu and Dr Rattan Singh Ajnala (both MPs), Mr Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, Mr Hira Singh Gabria, Mr Bikram Singh Majithia, Mr Tikshan Sood and Mr Gulzar Singh Ranike (all Ministers) and former Minister B S Bandugar.
