By Staff

New Delhi, Sep 26 (UNI) Promising Delhi teenager Yuki Bhambri has been given wild card in the men's singles main draw in the DSCL National Open tennis championship, which carries an enhanced total prize money of Rs 7,09,800.

The Nationals are to be played from September 30 to October 13.

The qualifying draw of the men's singles commenced under a pleasant sky today at the DLTA complex. But, the bigger news of the day was Yuki getting a wild card.

Having lost in the final round of the qualifying stage at the Kingfisher Open ATP tennis event in Mumbai on Monday, Yuki is playing solid tennis. He hails from the famous Bhambri family and two of his sisters -- Ankita and Sanaa -- have already done well in the domestic circuit and Fed Cup.

Yuki had lost to Navdeep Singh in Mumbai and the rest this week should see him come out fighting again. The other wild cards in the men's section have been awarded to West Bengal's Rupesh Roy, promising Vijayant Malik and Punjab's Navinder Pal Singh.

In the under-18 boys' section, Saurabh Singh, Shantanu Rajpit, Dhruv Gupta (all Delhi) have been given wild cards. The fourth wild card has gone to Pulumati Yashwant of Andhra Pradesh. The under-18 qualifying has attracted a huge number of entries and the weeding out process begins tomorrow.

The final qualifying in all sections will be best of three sets.
